Earlier this week, Real Madrid were dealt a major setback as their pursuit of Leny Yoro came to a disappointing end with the player opting to join Manchester United instead.

The 18-year-old is all set to complete his move to the English giants, leaving Los Blancos in a tricky situation considering that they need a new central defender this summer.

After all, Real Madrid did part ways with Nacho Fernandez and Rafa Marin this summer while David Alaba will still not be ready for a few months and Jesus Vallejo does not feature in the manager’s plans.

So, even though the public message coming out from the club is that they are not looking for a new defender, the scouting department, led by Juni Calafat, are alert to any possible chances in the market, reports Rodra (via Inaki Angulo’s Twitch).

Two Bundesliga defenders on the radar

In fact, Rodra states that Real Madrid already have two defenders – both from the Bundesliga – on their agenda at the moment.

The first name on the list happens to be Borussia Dortmund centre-half Nico Schlotterbeck while the other player is Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie.

Schlotterbeck, 24, has been at Dortmund for two years now and has three more years left on his contract. The German international has been a solid presence at the back for the Black and Yellows and would provide a left-footed option at centre-back.

Meanwhile, Hincapie, who was a crucial part of Leverkusen’s title-winning side last season, also has three years left on his contract with the Bundesliga champions.

The 22-year-old is a player that Xabi Alonso rates very highly. The Spanish tactician is understood to be the favourite to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as the next Real Madrid manager which could influence any possible deal.

There have been links to former Athletic Club and Manchester City star Aymeric Laporte as well, who is currently playing in Saudi Arabia.

With still a lot of time left in the transfer window, it will be interesting to see whether Real Madrid decide to sign anyone or go ahead with the options at their disposal already.
