A recent report from SPORT has shed light on the growing speculation regarding Xabi Alonso’s future, particularly in relation to Real Madrid.

The outlet mentions that despite persistent rumours linking him to the Spanish giants for next season, Bayer Leverkusen are adamant that they do not foresee any departure of the highly regarded manager next summer.

Alonso, who has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s top coaches, is aware of the rumours but remains focused on his work at the German club.

Bayer want Alonso

Over recent months, the speculation surrounding Alonso’s potential move to Real Madrid has escalated. As we look towards the summer transfer window, the chances of him making a switch to Real Madrid appeared to be increasing.

However, Fernando Carro, the CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, has firmly stated that the club sees no indication that Alonso will leave. “We assume that he will stay. There is no other sign,” he said.

The relationship between Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen is strong, and Carro highlighted that the club has a close and trusting connection with both the coach and his family.

“We maintain a very close and trusting relationship with him, his family and his agent. His contract lasts for another year and a half. As always, he is involved in all the processes and planning, even beyond this season,” he added.

So what next?

Interestingly, Alonso’s contract with Leverkusen coincides with that of Real Madrid’s current manager, Carlo Ancelotti, both set to expire in June 2026.

This has led to speculation that the two might end their respective tenures at the same time, with Alonso potentially taking over at Madrid. However, Alonso is focused on achieving more success at Leverkusen before making any decisions about his future.

Ancelotti, despite his remarkable success with Real Madrid, is aware of the growing pressure surrounding his position.

Rumours about his future have surfaced, and while his tenure at Madrid has been historically successful, his results this season will determine how long he stays.

Lastly, Alonso’s camp has denied any contact with Madrid, with the coach himself focusing on his role at Bayer Leverkusen, fully aware that one day he may eventually return to either Madrid or Bayern Munich.
