Real Madrid megastar’s future grows uncertain as Saudi Arabia continues strong push
Real Madrid megastar Vinicius Jr. has grown into one of the best footballers in the world in the past few seasons, playing an integral part in the success that Los Blancos have achieved in that period.
The 24-year-old finished second in the Ballon d’Or rankings for 2024 while also winning FIFA’s The Best Award or the Men’s Player of the Year.
Given his status, Saudi Arabia are making a hard push to sign Vinicius Jr., with the groundwork for the same being laid for some time now.
Intentions clear
Indeed, Saudi Arabia is not hiding its ambitions. Omar Mugharbel, the CEO of the Saudi Pro League, has openly confirmed in an interview with MARCA that bringing Vinicius to the league, is not just a dream but a tangible reality that has been in the works for some time.
“Vinicius? We do not dream, it is a matter of time and negotiation,” Mugharbel said.
Vinicius’ has always maintained that his desire remains to continue at what he considers the best club in the world, competing for prestigious team titles and individual accolades.
However, his camp have held talks with Saudi Arabia in the recent past which could hint at openness from his side to at least entertain the idea of a move.
Where do Real Madrid stand?
Real Madrid, for their part, remain calm, waiting for the right moment to act. The security of his contract – two more years and a release clause of €1 billion – serves as a shield for the club’s management.
At the same time, though, there is some growing uncertainty as the Merengues are well aware that the moves acknowledged by the Saudi CEO have not ceased throughout the season.
Both Real Madrid and Vinicius’ representatives had agreed to discuss the player’s future in the summer, but Mugharbel’s comments have accelerated developments, changing the course of events for everyone involved.
