Real Madrid have found a handy means of manoeuvring transfers in recent market windows as they now focus on free agents or running targets’ contracts down.

After signing David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger and Kylian Mbappe in a similar fashion, they now have their eyes on Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.

Widely considered one of the brightest young left-backs in world football, the Canadian star’s current deal in Germany runs out in June 2025 and the player has his heart set on a move to Madrid.

Despite Bayern’s strong efforts to renew his contract, Davies has shown no interest in considering the possibility and is seriously threatening to leave as a free agent next summer.

Davies speaks on his future

Speaking to BILD (h/t Fabrizio Romano) recently, the Bayern Munich defender commented openly about his situation with the Bavarians, future plans and a possible departure from the club.

Davies began by revealing his current priorities with the 2024-25 season underway, firmly stating that he was committed to Vincent Kompany’s project. “I’m fully focused on Bayern,” he said.

His next statement, however, was not very encouraging from a Bayern Munich fan’s perspective as he all but confirmed that he was seriously considering a departure from the club.

“Regardless of whether I stay or leave the club, I will always carry this club in my heart.”

Finally, Davies was quizzed on whether he was considering the contract renewal proposal that Bayern have been trying to push for in recent months, to which he said,

“New deal? Good question. You should ask my agent about it.”

So far this season, the youngster has made three Bundesliga appearances for Bayern and averages one key pass and over five defensive actions per game.
