In a recent interview, legendary Real Madrid forward Luis Figo offered his two cents on several hot topics in football while also offering his thoughts on Thibaut Courtois vs Iker Casillas comparison.

Figo went on to offer his thoughts on recent comparisons between Casillas and Courtois, who has been in splendid form of late.

The Portuguese football legend dismissed the idea of comparing the two, urging fans to appreciate both players’ contributions in their respective eras.

That’s nonsense,” said Figo on the comparisons. “If you take one to the detriment of another, for me it’s not right. You have to give value to each one in their moment and not compare.”

He praised Courtois’ return to top form, as seen in his stellar performance against Stuttgart, while also reminding fans of Casillas’ legendary status at the club.

Luis Figo on Rodri’s statement

The football world has been buzzing after Manchester City midfielder Rodri hinted at the possibility of a player strike due to the overwhelming match schedule.

Addressing this, Figo acknowledged the challenges but highlighted the financial implications that fewer matches could bring.

“We have to see what the best solution is, but it’s logical that there are more and more matches. It’s all like a snowball, the more matches, the bigger the contracts. If there are fewer matches, the contracts will be reduced,” explained Figo.

It must be noted that Rodri is a potential target for Real Madrid, as they look to shore up their ranks in 2025. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how his recent comment impacts his dynamic with Manchester City.

Figo on Real Madrid’s attacking dilemma

Finally, Figo addressed Real Madrid’s offensive “problem” following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.

With a wealth of attacking talent at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, some players have been forced to play out of their natural positions. However, Figo believes that quality will always find its place.

“Quality always fits within a team. Then you have to sacrifice and do what you are told to do,” he said.

Speaking specifically about Mbappe, Figo lauded the French star, stating, “He is one of the best in the world, if not the best. He will always grow because he is young, and football is like that – you always want to learn and improve.”
