Real Madrid legend reacts to news of Barcelona midfielder’s imminent free transfer exit

Earlier this week, Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan announced his retirement from international football, joining Toni Kroos on the list of recently retired German legends.

While his decision to call it quits with the German national team was well thought out, his future at the club level is a mess and not one he wished for.

The midfield legend is quite literally being forced to leave Barcelona to make up for the administration’s poor management of finances, as the Blaugrana need space on the wage bill to register Dani Olmo.

Kroos Reacts to Gundogan’s Transfer

In a recent social media post, reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano detailed the terms of Gundogan’s departure from Barcelona, assuring that he would leave without a doubt and that it would be on a free transfer.

Commenting on the post and mocking Barcelona’s shambolic treatment of players was Real Madrid legend and Gundogan’s compatriot Toni Kroos, who replied saying, “Wow” followed by emojis of monkeys.

While the Real Madrid legend’s public reaction to Barcelona’s decision can be questioned, it is not completely unwarranted.

After all, the Catalans have carved out a name for themselves in recent years for mistreating club legends and forcing departures ungratefully.

Gundogan, through no fault of his own, is likely to be framed as the scapegoat over the coming weeks and will return to Manchester City, where he won the sextuple as captain.

Pep Guardiola’s side have given the green light to bring the player back to the Etihad Stadium, and the final decision now rests in the hands of the player.

At this point, it is almost safe to call Barcelona’s transfer market a disappointment, especially with the team’s best midfielder from last season now set to leave on a free transfer.
