Real Madrid goalkeeper to compete with 9 other candidates for the Yashin Trophy
Although he has once again been relegated to the bench, the Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin had a 2023-24 season to remember. With Thibaut Courtois out for the entirety of the season, the Ukrainian stepped up to an immense level and was integral as the Merengues won both the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League titles.
As already reported, his performances in the last season have earned him a candidacy for the Yashin Trophy, an award presented to the best goalkeeper in a year. The winner of this prize will be announced on 28th October, and Lunin will be competing with nine other goalkeepers for this honour.

Andriy Lunin
The 25-year-old played 33 games last year and kept 13 clean sheets in these games. He also won the La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, and the Spanish Super Cup titles with Real Madrid.
Diogo Costa
The 24-year-old Portuguese keeper played 58 games and did not concede a goal in 25 of these matches. He also won the Portuguese Cup with Porto.
Gianluigi Donnarumma
The Italian shot-stopper played 42 games last season and kept 19 clean sheets. He also won Ligue 1, the French Cup, and the French Super Cup with PSG.
Gregor Kobel
The Swiss keeper played 42 games and did not let the ball go past him in 14 of these games. He reached the final of the UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund but lost out to Real Madrid.
Mike Maignan
The AC Milan goalkeeper kept 23 clean sheets in 56 games last season. He also went up to the semi-finals of the UEFA EURO 2024 with the French national team.
Giorgi Mamardashvili
Mamardashvili kept 17 clean sheets in 49 games for Valencia and the Georgian national team. He was also one of the quarter-finalists for the UEFA EURO 2024.
Emiliano Martinez
The Aston Villa keeper kept 27 clean sheets in his 62 appearances last season. He also won the Copa America with Argentina.
The Athletic Club goalkeeper had a very good last season as he won the Copa del Rey and also the UEFA EURO 2024 with his Spanish national team. He kept 23 clean sheets in 49 total games.
Yann Sommer
The Swiss international kept 27 clean sheets in 54 games last season and also won the Serie A title and the Italian Super Cup with Inter Milan.
