This past summer, Paris Saint-Germain was linked with several center-backs to strengthen their defense, including veteran Aymeric Laporte.

According to El Chiringuito’s José Álvarez Haya, PSG was in the running along with Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid for the Spanish defender. PSG’s interest seemed particularly strong due to manager Luis Enrique’s previous connection with Laporte from their time together with Spain’s national team.

MARCA’s José Félix Díaz also reported that Laporte is eager to return to Europe, with Spain being his preferred destination. While PSG’s transfer strategy typically focuses on young players with untapped potential, this situation presented an opportunity to bring in an experienced defender.

Meanwhile, Diario AS noted last month that Real Madrid are also monitoring Laporte as a potential reinforcement for their defense, especially after losing Nacho Fernández and Rafa Marín during the summer transfer window.

A report from Spain suggests that Real Madrid are most interested in signing Laporte following Éder Militão’s injury. Militão suffered a torn ACL during Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over Osasuna on Saturday, further adding to the team’s injury woes.

ESPN, citing sources, reported that the Brazilian defender is expected to be out for nine months. Despite the interest in Laporte, the defender’s move is complicated due to his high salary and the fact that Saudi Arabia is unlikely to approve a six-month loan.
