‘Real Madrid is everything to me’ – Luka Modric speaks out after contract renewal

Despite being the oldest member of the famous Luka Modric-Toni Kroos-Casemiro midfield, the Croatian is the last-standing member at Real Madrid.

With the German maestro retiring after the recently concluded Euros, Modric now represents the final link of Real Madrid’s midfield with the old guard and has rightfully been named the new captain.

Earlier today, the club officially confirmed that the 38-year-old would stay with Carlo Ancelotti’s side for one more year after a contract extension, and the player spoke to the media after the formal ceremony.

“I’m very happy to renew another year with Real Madrid. This is a unique and special moment for me. Very happy and proud,” he began, expressing his feelings.

The veteran then went on to elaborate how the club has become an important part of his life over the years, saying:

“Real Madrid means a lot to me and my family, this is our home. Real Madrid is something unique in my life. Real Madrid is everything to me.”

Finally, Modric expressed his deep gratitude towards all parties involved in ensuring his continuity at the club for one more year.

“I want to thank the club, the president and the coach for still believing in me and allowing me to continue at the best club in the world. Real Madrid mean everything for me.”

Last season, Modric made 32 appearances and 18 starts for Los Blancos in La Liga, averaging over 50 minutes per game. One year older, that number may well reduce as he approaches what could be his final season at the club.

Notably, he will no longer don the iconic number 10 at the club with Kylian Mbappe officially taking over the kit.
