Real Madrid provide defender injury update after training ground scare
La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Monday evening provided an update on the wellbeing of defender Jesús Vallejo.
This comes, for those who may have missed it, after the Spaniard suffered an injury scare earlier in the day.
After taking to the training pitch alongside the rest of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the first session of Real Madrid’s pre-season tour of the USA, Vallejo didn’t last long, before limping out of proceedings in Chicago with a muscular issue.
Vallejo had muscular problems since last week and this is why Joan Martínez was called up for the tour, as revealed on Saturday.
He did not complete at least the last two sessions with the group before the trip and today, already in Chicago, he has had to leave the training. https://t.co/dpgw09Vf6l— Mario Cortegana (@MarioCortegana) July 29, 2024
Labelled a doubt to even feature on the tour after sitting out training late last week, the 27-year-old’s issue, in turn, marked a serious source of concern for the Blancos coaching staff.
Vallejo could yet have a surprisingly prominent role to play in Spain’s capital this season, amid something of a dearth of options at the disposal of boss Ancelotti at centre-half.
Thankfully for all associated with Real Madrid, though, Vallejo’s problem does not seem to be at all serious.
As revealed by Real insider Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, citing direct sources at the club, the powerful stopper – fresh off a loan stint at Granada – is dealing with a ‘slight overload’.
Según el club, lo de Vallejo es una “ligera sobrecarga”. @TheAthleticFC
