Real Madrid confirm Kylian Mbappe squad number and date for presentation

Real Madrid have confirmed the date for the unveiling of new signing Kylian Mbappe following the agreement of his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain as well as his official shirt number for the 2024/25 season.

The France captain confirmed he would next extend his contract with the French giants towards the end of the 2023/24 season before his long-awaited move to the Bernabeu was finally confirmed in early June.

He has signed a five-year contract with the 15-time European champions and the club has now confirmed he will be presented to fans next week.

Madrid have also officially revealed the former Monaco attacker will wear the number 9 shirt, though that jersey is only expected to be a temporary arrangement until Luka Modric departs and leaves the 10 shirt vacant.

The number nine top has been vacant since Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema left for Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad at the end of the 2022/23 season. It was also briefly worn by Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo before he switched to the number seven.

A statement reads: "Real Madrid CF announces that next Tuesday, July 16, at 12:00 p.m., the presentation of our player Kylian Mbappe will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

"Previously, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will welcome Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid City for the signing ceremony that will bind our new player to the club for the next five seasons.

"After the presentation, Kylian Mbappe will speak to the media in the press room at the Santiago Bernabeu."

It was previously reported Mbappe would be unveiled in luxurious fashion in the "most impressive presentation ever made of a footballer".

The 25-year-old has just been eliminated with France from Euro 2024 following their semi-final defeat to Spain on Tuesday. He scored only one penalty at the tournament.
