With just a few days before the January transfer window opens up, Real Madrid are presumably lining up several moves, in an attempt to reinforce their ranks in defence.

One of their primary targets in defence is Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season.

Real Madrid are eyeing a Bosman move for the Englishman, who reportedly wants to play for Los Blancos. However, a January move has not been ruled out either.

Real Madrid optimistic about Alexander-Arnold pursuit

A recent report from The Athletic has offered a comprehensive update on Real Madrid’s transfer plans heading into the January transfer window.

The report indicates that there is a growing optimism around the Real Madrid camp surrouding the arrival of Alexander-Arnold.

The Englishman, till date, has refused to renew his contract at Liverpool. Real Madrid, for their part, are ideally looking to sign him on a free transfer.

The report adds that a January move does appear unfeasible as of now, meaning Real Madrid, one way or another, may have to wait till summer in any case.

Nevertheless, the reigning European champions are growing increasingly confident about signing Alexander-Arnold, who can be an ideal long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal.

The veteran right-back is currently suffering from a long-term injury and has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

His return, though, may coincide with the potential arrival of Alexander-Arnold. Real Madrid, therefore, may have to play a balancing act for both individuals, as far as the game-time is concerned.
