Ferland Mendy was one of Real Madrid’s key players last season as they cruised to La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and Spanish Super Cup success.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti constantly praised the French international, naming him the best defensive full-back in the world.

However, heading into the summer, Mendy’s future at Real Madrid is far from certain, given that the club are pursuing Alphonso Davies, while the Frenchman’s contract stands to expire in 2025.

As has already been reported, Ancelotti and his staff are eager for Mendy to continue at Real Madrid, irrespective of how their pursuit of Alphonso Davies goes.

However, as per The Athletic, the Real Madrid board is not in favour of offering the 29-year-old a new long-term contract with improved wages – something that the player desires.

As mentioned earlier, the former Olympique Lyon full-back’s contract expires next year and while he had previously turned down renewal offers, he is understood to be open to a long-term renewal with an improvement in salary.

But with the club hierarchy not in favour of such a move, Mendy’s future remains in limbo.

As per previous reports, Mendy is attracting interest from PSG and some clubs in the Premier League. So, there is a possibility that Real Madrid could end up cashing in on him if a suitable offer comes along.

As things stand, though, sources close to the Frenchman’s camp indicate that there will not be any significant movement until he returns from the UEFA Euro 2024.
