La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Wednesday announced the sale of a member of the club’s defensive ranks.

The player in question? Rafa Marín.

Stopper Marín, for his part, has of course taken his place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital for several weeks now.

As much comes after word was forthcoming that the 22-year-old, fresh off an impressive campaign on loan at Deportivo Alavés, was closing on a permanent exit from the club.

After Serie A heavyweights Napoli opened talks with their counterparts at the Santiago Bernabéu, the basic framework of a transfer was quickly worked out.

In turn, on Wednesday, it should come as little surprise to hear of Marín’s move to Naples being made official.

As per a statement released across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms:

‘Real Madrid C. F. and SSC Napoli have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of our player Rafa Marín.

‘Rafa Marín joined Real Madrid in 2016 at the age of 14. Since then, he played in all the youth ranks of our academy until he spent two seasons with Castilla. During the 2023-2024 season, he was on loan at Deportivo Alavés.

‘Real Madrid wishes him and his family all the best of luck in this new stage of his career.’
