Alphonso Davies has been on Real Madrid’s radar for quite some time now, with the Canadian international emerging as the club’s ideal solution for the left-back position.

Davies was linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, but the player’s contract situation, coupled with Carlo Ancelotti’s trust in Ferland Mendy meant Los Blancos opted to wait.

Now, with Davies still yet to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich, Real Madrid appear to have made a major breakthrough in the pursuit of the left-back.

Real Madrid reach agreement with Davies

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Davies over a move to Santiago Bernabeu next summer.

The Bayern Munich star has accepted a deal until 2030, with an option to extend the contract for one more year. This implies the star has signed a five-year contract for Real Madrid and is expected to join the club on a free transfer.

However, nothing is likely to be made official just now. Davies, after all, will only be able to sign a pre-contract agreement when the January transfer window opens up.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are not expecting any miracles. The club are convinced the Canadian international is set to play for Carlo Ancelotti’s team next season, even though the player himself has appeared quite tight-lipped on his future.

Implications of Davies move to Real Madrid

The arrival of Davies could go a long way in replenishing Real Madrid’s quality and depth in the left-back unit.

Although Mendy has performed superbly since the turn of the year, Davies could well turn out to be an upgrade due to his superior pace and ability to terrorise the opposing defences.

Davies’ arrival may also put question marks on Fran Garcia’s future, who has already been linked with a move away from Bernabeu in 2025.

Once the Davies deal is completed, Real Madrid can also shift their focus to another defensive target in Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Englishman is being targeted as a replacement for Dani Carvajal and may also join the club on a free transfer next summer.
