The powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid have begun work towards tying two members of the club’s defensive ranks down to new contracts.

That’s according to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, who points towards Ferland Mendy and Dani Carvajal as the pair in question.

Fresh off missing out on the club’s leading defensive target, in Leny Yoro, already this summer, the brass at Real Madrid have since turned their attentions firmly towards locking down the futures of those already at the disposal of Carlo Ancelotti.

First, at the direct request of the Italian tactician, comes a concerted push to secure a contract extension agreement with Ferland Mendy.

The France international is fresh off a stellar individual campaign at the Santiago Bernabéu, to the point that Real’s pursuit of Bayern Munich standout Alphonso Davies has heavily cooled.

The understanding, in turn, is that an accord between the parties is all but imminent.

And following Mendy is committing to fresh terms in Madrid is expected to be a 2nd full-back, in Dani Carvajal.

Like his defensive partner, the experienced Carvajal, in 2023/24, proved himself one of boss Ancelotti’s most reliable performers.

An immovable figure at right-back, Carvajal reestablished himself firmly in the conversation for the game’s very best in his role.

And as much looks set to see the Spanish international deservedly rewarded, courtesy of a new deal of his own.
