Real Madrid 19-year-old jewel now seen as a ‘leader’ in his national team
Arda Guler stepped up his game in Euro 2024 earlier this year, announcing his arrival on the big stage.
His start to the season at Real Madrid, however, was not as bright as he was yet again placed behind Jude Bellingham on the pecking order.
Now again on international duty, the youngster is displaying tremendous quality for the Turkish national team and is staking claim as the team’s most important player.
A leader is born
As revealed in a recent update by AS, Guler’s incredible performance against Iceland in the UEFA Nations League clash earlier this week has earned recognition and applause from across the globe.
The 19-year-old phenom after all stood out for his side, registering an assist, 91% pass completion, four key passes and one big chance created.
What left a special mark on the youngster’s performance was Guler’s dedication, leadership and never-say-die attitude that made him one of the most trusted passing outlets on the night.
When Iceland pressed high in numbers, the Turkish players trusted Guler despite the tight spaces and he passed the test with flying colours.
The Spanish outlet also adds that in Turkey, they consider that a new leader is born and that Guler will now serve as the focal point for the national team.
Still a teenager, it is incredible that the youngster is showing such levels on the biggest stage and is even being referred to as the central point.
The Real Madrid star’s leadership was visible aplenty on the night, especially in the manner he went and talked to veteran Hakan Calhanoglu when the defender rushed into unnecessary challenge. Like a true leader, he even admitted that he had a lot to improve after the game.
Speaking to the media after the game, Guler’s grandfather was asked about the youngster’s future and a possible departure on loan.
“There is no such thing. All that information is false. Arda Güler will have a lot of playing time at Real Madrid this year.
“Arda’s future opens up at Real Madrid. I think he has some things to improve physically. This year will be better. He will no longer play in a Turkish league team.”
