The Readers’ Choice: Vote for the Charlotte-area volleyball player of the year

Who was the best high school volleyball player in the Charlotte-area this season?

We are going to let readers make their choice this week.

The Observer asked schools for nominations and then selected a group of finalists from those we received.

Readers can vote on their choice until Sunday at midnight when the poll will end (please note, results will not always be shown).

The winner will be featured in an article from the media company.

Note: The Observer will announce its All-Observer volleyball team and its regional player of the year in December.

Meet the nominees

Karsyn Baylog, Marvin Ridge, Sr.: An outside hitter, Baylong led Marvin Ridge to a 34-4 record and an appearance in the N.C. 4A state championship game. She had 245 kills, 297 digs, 34 aces and 29 blocks. An all-state and all-region pick, Baylog was also Southern Carolinas’ conference player of the year.

Anne Bradley Bing, Gaston Day, Sr.: An outside hitter, Bing was No. 12 nationally with 718 kills (through Nov. 12). She averaged 8.4 kills per set. She also had 718 digs, 37 blocks and led her team to a 19-10 record and a N.C. Independent Schools 2A state title. She’s committed to South Carolina. Bing was all-conference and all-state. She was an unanimous all-conference pick but the MAC doesn’t pick a player of the year.

Jordin Glass, Davidson Day, Sr.: A middle hitter, Glass ranked among the top 25 in the state in hitting percentage (.355). She had 356 kills, 76 blocks, 73 digs and 69 aces and led the Patriots to a 24-4 record and an NCISAA state title. She has been named all-state in each of the past three seasons and is a two-time conference MVP. She has committed to Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Sofia Janowicz, Ardrey Kell, Sr.: A six-rotation player, Janowicz primarily played outside hitter and setter. She led the Knights to a 17-14 record and was named SoMECK conference player of the year and tournament MVP. The Knights finished second in league play and won the league tournament. Janowicz had 23 aces, 250 kills and 34 blocks.

Danielle Lewis, Lake Norman Charter, Soph.: A libero, Lewis had 81 sets played, 42 aces, 465 digs and 83 assists. She received 422 serves and led her team to a 22-3 record. She was South Piedmont conference player of the year.

Arianna Lopez, Cannon School, Sr.: The Cougars’ setter, a University of Tampa recruit, had 120 kills, 522 assists and 41 aces. She led her team to a 15-8 record. She was runner-up CISAA player of the year and recorded her 2,000th assist this season. Lopez was also an all-conference and all-state pick.

Jumana Martin, Nation Ford (SC), Sr.: Martin, a libero, had 117 sets played. She had 67 aces, 12 kills, 141 assists and 500 digs. Nation Ford (40-3) played in the state semifinals Tuesday. Martin, an all-region and all-state pick, has signed with College of Charleston.

Sanaa Mohammed, Charlotte Country Day: A sophomore outside hitter, Mohammed finished the year with 278 kills, 213 digs and 32 aces. She led her team to a 20-3 record and was first-team all-conference as well as an all-state pick.

Caroline Noonan, Charlotte Christian, Sr.: An outside hitter, Noonan had 257 kills (5 per set) and a 43.7 kill percentage. She had 69 aces, 26 blocks and 131 digs. She led the Knights to an 11-6 record and has committed to College of Charleston. Noonan was 2024 CISAA conference player of the year and was an all-state pick.
