Ray Lewis apologizes to Joe Flacco for remarks: 'It wasn't even personal'

After hearing backlash to his comments criticizing Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco’s passion for football, Ray Lewis apologized.

Lewis, the former Ravens linebacker, posted a 2:20 video on his Twitter page. It seems like it was taken in the back seat of a car, with some “nature sounds” type of soundtrack in the background, and he rambled a bit as he tried to make an inspirational speech. In other words, it’s about what you’d expect from Lewis.

“Joe Flacco, what I was talking about, my brother, it wasn’t even about you,” Lewis said. “It wasn’t even personal. It was just me being frustrated watching something had control over for so many years, which was men and inspiring them to going and doing things. And guess what? Like everyone else I lashed out at the quarterback. Because, quote-unquote, that’s the person that’s supposed to carry us or do whatever. Brother, your personality is what it is.”

Lewis directly apologized to Flacco, the Ravens quarterback who was his teammate when the two won a Super Bowl at the end of the 2012 season. Flacco doesn’t apologize for being somewhat subdued as a quarterback. “Subdued” is word that never has or will be used to describe Lewis.

“From a man, you’ll never hear it again,” Lewis said. “Sorry for ever even calling out your name or putting your name in the context of making you try to be anything that I am or anything that you’re not.”

Some people, most notably former Ravens linebacker Bart Scott, pointed out that Flacco was the key player on Lewis’ second championship team.

“It’s funny because I heard people speak all week about, ‘He carried me to a Super Bowl, he carried us to a Super Bowl,'” Lewis said. “Let me correct you. No, we carried each other. That’s what champions do. That’s what teams do.”

Anyway, we can probably put this “feud” to rest. That’s unfortunate, because the Lewis apology video was so entertaining.
