The Toronto Raptors are close to signing forward Juancho Hernangomez to a one-year deal, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Tuesday.

Hernangomez last played for the Utah Jazz, where he averaged 6.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists, while shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from three-point range in 17 games at the end of the 2021-22 season.

The 26-year-old was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 15th pick of the 2016 NBA Draft. He spent four seasons with the Nuggets before moving on to stops in Minnesota, Boston, Utah and San Antonio. The 6-foot-9, 214-pound big man has averaged 5.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 297 career NBA games, and has appeared in 11 playoff games.

Hernangomez may be better known for his acting chops than his exploits on the court after impressing with a lead role in the 2022 film "Hustle," in which he plays a young basketball player from Spain named Bo Cruz who is brought to the United States by a Philadelphia 76ers scout (Adam Sandler) to make his NBA dreams come true.

The Madrid, Spain native will be the 20th player to take part in the Raptors' preseason training camp as the battle for a roster spot is shaping up to be a fierce one.
