Raptors' Pascal Siakam says newborn niece peeing on him contributed to great performance vs. Wizards

Toronto Raptors star forward Pascal Siakam has been hot of late, with his top form on full display in a 31-point performance during the Raptors' 102-90 win over the Washington Wizards at Scotiabank Arena on Sunday night.

In his media availability following the game, the 27-year-old gave reporters the hilarious factor he believes contributed to his big night.

"My brother, he has a kid, my niece, and usually I don't like carrying newborns. They're just so fragile," Siakam said. "She's like two months old, and I've been putting off just picking her up because I'm like, I don't know. And then yeah, yesterday, I picked her up. And she peed on me! I don't know. Maybe it was that."

After missing the start of the season recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, Siakam is slowly getting back to his All-Star calibre self as he helps the Raptors navigate through a rough start to the year. In 13 games, the Cameroonian is averaging 19.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range.

And while his niece and her “accident” may have figured as a good luck charm, Siakam doesn’t think the ritual is here to stay.

"I don't think I can see her everyday or every game," he joked. "I hope. I mean Yeah. I don't think it can be possible but whatever I can, I will."

Siakam and the Raptors continue their homestand on Wednesday night against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
