Raptors fans roast pop-up Kyle Lowry statue spotted around Toronto

Former Toronto Raptors star point-guard Kyle Lowry will make his long-awaited return to Toronto on Sunday night as a member of the Miami Heat, and the excitement around the city is palpable.

Hours before the highly-anticipated matchup at Scotiabank Arena, a statue of Lowry was pictured at various locations around downtown Toronto, with passing fans snapping photos of and alongside it.

While the origins of the statue are unknown, signs point to it being the work of TSN, the Raptors organization, or both.

The lifesize sculpture could be a preview of a future carving of the star guard, to be eventually unveiled outside Scotiabank Arena. In the meantime, this effigy could not escape the predictable jabs and jokes made by fans online.

Though it seems like the majority of the fanbase is at least open to the idea, some still haven’t come around to the idea of honouring the greatest Raptor of all time with a statue.

While the idea was a good one, perhaps those responsible with carving the actual statue of the GROAT could use some of the fans’ suggestions after this test run.
