Raptors assistant coach Phil Handy weighs in on the GOAT debate

Kobe? Michael? LeBron? Three different players with different dynamics, if you’re asking Phil Handy.

The Raptors assistant coach weighed in on the GOAT debate on the latest episode of Inside the Green Room with Danny Green. The former Cavaliers coach, who spent time in Cleveland working with LeBron James, shared his thoughts after the Lakers star referred to himself as the GOAT on social media.

“Yo, he should!” said Handy when asked if he thinks LeBron should feel like the GOAT. “He’s entitled to that. I don’t think he’s the GOAT, but I don’t think anybody can say who the GOAT is.”

As many have in the past, Handy cites the different eras in which these three legends excelled for his take, but his agnostic approach to the GOAT debate goes deeper than that.

“They’re different players. So that whole ‘Kobe-LeBron-MJ scenario, this my answer to it: Kobe is the most skilled! I think out of those three guys, he is the most skilled. LeBron is the best all-around player out of those three. MJ is the best scorer, and he’s just going to take your heart.

“Three different dynamics, and they bring three different things that they were all better than the others at. But to say which one is the GOAT? Again, different eras, man. It’s a tough question that people ask.”
