New rankings released: Top 25 high school football teams in the Carolinas

Three new teams join the Carolinas Top 25 high school football poll this week, and all three are from South Carolina.

The poll, sponsored by McClatchy media companies in both states, appears weekly.

The new teams are No. 23 Boiling Springs, No. 24 Spartanburg and No. 25 May River.

Boiling Springs beat Wade Hampton 55-14 last week and plays Spartanburg this week. Spartanburg has won three straight games.

May River, from Bluffton, was 4-7 last season and 5-6 in 2022. This year, the Sharks are 6-0. They play rival Hilton Head (4-2) on Thursday night.

Elsewhere, Hough High, from Cornelius, N.C., jumped eight spots to No. 5. The Huskies (6-1) have won six straight since losing a 20-point lead to No. 3 Northwestern in a 45-44 loss to start the season. Hough hosts No. 13 Mallard Creek on Friday.
