Ranking 5 Jimmy Butler trade destinations after his reported request to the Heat
Before the news dropped -- per ESPN -- that Jimmy Butler told the Miami Heat he wants to be traded, NBA fans knew what was coming.
That was because the star talked about wanting to "get [his] joy back" and that he "probably" wasn't getting his joy back with the Heat.
So, here we are. Butler is done in Miami. But where to? Who would want to trade for a 35-year-old who can still play solid defense and score enough to be a factor? We came up with three destinations last month, but let's rank the possible teams by who should definitely deal for Butler:
5. Oklahoma City Thunder
They check some boxes -- they're a serious contender, they have some young pieces and draft picks to unload, they might want a veteran in the mix, and they would be filthy on the defensive end with Butler.
That said, the Thunder might not want to swing for the fences given their success without a player like Butler.
4. Denver Nuggets
Maybe they want to trade Michael Porter Jr.? And is that a pretty good return for Butler?
3. Dallas Mavericks
Personally, I think the Mavs don't want to trade their awesome depth for Butler, even if it'd be amazing to see him, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving play together. But who knows?
2. Houston Rockets
It's a move that makes sense in a lot of ways. The Rockets have young players they can trade, Butler is from the Houston area, and the team would go from intriguing to true contenders.
1. Golden State Warriors
This is the one you'll hear about the most. The Dubs are shaping up to be in the middle of a Last Dance of sorts with aging Steph Curry and Draymond Green. They have the kind of young studs that a team like the Heat might covet.
If you're going for it now, this is the all-in move.
