Rangers vs Celtic – Predicted lineup and team news

Rangers take on Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Thursday looking for revenge.

Philippe Clement’s side lost a thrilling League Cup final to their bitter rivals last month and are a distant second in the Scottish Premiership. The cup decider ended 3-3 before Celtic triumphed via a penalty shootout. It extended a dominant recent record in Old Firm contests for Celtic, who have lost just one of the last 17 meetings.

Rangers are 14 points behind Celtic in the title race ahead of Thursday’s tie at Ibrox. Clement’s side are looking for a first win in three league games and face a difficult task against a Celtic side unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership. The visitors have conceded just four goals in 18 games this season and are on a run of six straight clean sheets.

Rangers team news

Jack Butland will miss the Old Firm clash after being admitted to hospital on Wednesday. Rangers confirmed that ‘the goalkeeper suffered an internal bleed in his leg which required hospital treatment, but he has since been released and is recovering’.

Hamza Igamane is set to be recalled to the side after scoring both goals off the bench against Motherwell last weekend. Igamane struck twice as Rangers fought back from two goals down to earn a point.

There was encouraging news as Rabbie Matondo made his return from a long layoff at the weekend, with the Welsh winger featuring as a second-half substitute. John Souttar, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Tom Lawrence all remain out, though Leon Balogun is expected to make the squad despite picking up an issue against St Mirren on Boxing Day.

Rangers predicted lineup

Rangers predicted XI: Kelly; Tavernier, Sterling, Balogun, Yilmaz; Diomande, Raskin; Cerny, Bajrami, Hagi; Igamane.
