Rangers Transforming Into The Team We All Knew They Could Be

Believe it or not, the New York Rangers are officially on a winning streak.

The Rangers defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 2-1 on Saturday night in what was a full team effort.

From start to finish, the Rangers played a tight and gritty game, something we haven't seen from this team a whole lot recently.

After going down 1-0 in the second period, the Rangers responded with a power play goal from Vincent Trocheck.

The power play has been an issue for the Rangers this season, but it’s begun to come alive as of late.

It was Adam Edström who ultimately scored the game-winning goal in the third period.

Up by one goal, the Rangers got some big-time saves from Igor Shesterkin and didn’t allow the Golden Knights to get many high quality scoring chances.

By the look of the game, it was clear that the Rangers were playing as one cohesive unit, and that was the most impressive part of the night.

This is a game the Blueshirts wouldn’t have been able to win a couple of weeks ago, but they are finally starting to turn the page.

“We are playing a better brand of hockey right now,” Peter Laviolette said. “I said this before in some of the games we weren’t winning, we are doing the right things to win games. I think when you do that more consistently, your chances of being successful go up.”

Defensively the Rangers were rock solid. Finally, they played a winning style of hockey and it started defensively.

“As a team defensively, it seems like we’ve been doing that a lot better recently,” Ryan Lindgren said. “That’s the key to winning games, so that was good for us.”

Confidence is the golden word.

You can gain confidence as fast as you can lose it, and that’s exactly what has happened to the Rangers. Now, it’s about keeping that confidence.

“We’ve been looking for that the entire year,” Laviolette said about the Rangers gaining confidence. “We’ve been looking to get wins, follow up wins and we just haven't been able to get that done. That’s on us, but right now this is where we are at…”

The Rangers will be back in action on Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche.
