The Rangers' Trade Dilemma Reaches Boiling Point

Locomotive engineer Peter Laviolette believes that the Rangers train wreck is not his fault. Otherwise, he'd resign. Problem is that he's the one running the derailed Blueshirts Express.

For now we must deal with the panic stories:

TIME TO BLOW UP THIS UNDERACHIEVING CORE, shouted the Post headline, which I happen to like. My header would have been SCUTTLE THIS OVERPRICED SHIP.

Columnist Larry Brooks threw an explosive grenade so let's examine who's underachieving including last night's home loss to one of the NHL's weakest teams.

Who would want Jacob Trouba? He's more trouble as captain than good as a leader. And he costs far and away too much moolah. You'd have to be an addlepated GM to want Trouba trouble.

Who would want Ryan Lindgren? Look up and you'll see that the poor guy is on another injured list.

Who would want K'Andre Miller? Because he's relatively young he could be tempting, especially if the GM on the other end hasn't seen him play lately.

Who would want Mika Zibanejad? Perhaps a rookie KHL GM who just won the Russian Lottery. Otherwise, Z could bring back vaudeville: Headline: SEE THE GREAT DISAPPEARING ACT.

Who would want Chris Kreider? You tell me. I started off writing "maybe Montreal" and then I remembered how Kreider helped win a Habs-Ranger series by running over Carey Price.

Who would want Vincent Trocheck? Pittsburgh, because he was born there and Penguins genius GM Kyle Dubas specializes in dumb moves.

Who would want Artemi Panarin? Well, he's King of the Core, isn't he? Breadman also happens to be 32; otherwise known as the down side of a career.

For there to be a "blow-up," the TNT sticks must be big. None are bigger than Panarin – with one exception – The Good Fella who wants to be paid more than any other goalie.

He's part of the Core, right?

Yet last night at The World's Most Famous Arena, Igor Shesterkin could not keep his Core from turning rotten.

Again!
