Rangers Reward Will Borgen With Lengthy Contract Extension

The New York Rangers have agreed on a five-year contract extension with defenseman Will Borgen.

The 28-year-old will reportedly make $4.1 million per season with this new extension according to multiple NHL insiders.

The Rangers traded for Borgen from the Seattle Kraken on Dec. 18 in a package that included Kaapo Kakko.

Borgen has served a big role since arriving in New York as Peter Laviolette credits him with helping turnaround the Rangers’ season.

“For me, he’s a big reason why things quieted down here a little bit,” Laviolette said about Borgen. “You are right about Will, he skates well, he is physical, he plays with an edge , he doesn't back down from anybody. I think he’s done a real good job.”

In 17 games with the Rangers, Borgen has recorded one goal, two assists and three points while averaging 18:35 minutes.
