The Rangers Have An Obvious Decision To Make With Matt Rempe

The New York Rangers should keep Matt Rempe around following his eight-game suspension.

While Rempe can’t solve all of the Rangers’ problems, he certainly could help the team get back on track.

In the one game played in recently against the Dallas Stars, Rempe’s physicality set the tone for a Rangers 3-1 victory.

It was clear that New York fed off of the 22-year-old’s energy and they played with more passion as a team because of it.

Peter Laviolette even took the time to praise Rempe after their impressive victory over the Stars.

“I thought he had a big impact on the game,” Laviolette said. “We’d like to stay away from the 5-minute major, but he’s doing his best to hit bodies and make a difference in the game. Our guys really rallied around that.”

Yes, the night ended in Rempe’s nasty hit on Miro Heiskanen which resulted in an eight-game suspension, but he provided a spark before the incident that the Rangers desperately needed.

The Blueshirts have lost their identity and Rempe has already proven that his presence will help propel the team to play with more energy and urgency.

It's possible the Rangers send Rempe back down to the American Hockey league after he has served his suspension. However, that would ultimately be the wrong decision.

New York needs Rempe back ASAP.
