The Rangers Must Name Vincent Trocheck Captain

The New York Rangers must shake up the locker room, but that doesn't necessarily mean Chris Drury needs to ship off any more players.

Since trading Jacob Trouba, the Rangers have been without a captain and that should be addressed sooner rather than later.

Trouba’s departure didn’t help the Rangers get back on track, if anything they look worse.

While there are several veterans on the team capable of leading, having a captain is important, and filling that void now is exactly what this struggling team could use.

Vincent Tricheck is the perfect man for the job.

After almost every game, whether the Bluehsirts win or lose, Trocheck speaks with the media, and he doesn't just give the usual cookie-cutter kind of answers.

The 31-year-old forward is not afraid to say what needs to be said and send a message to his team.

He’s professional, well-spoken and seems to be loved among all people around the Rangers organization.

On the ice, Trocheck plays with heart. He fights for loose pucks, provides a strong physical edge while also using his griddy style of play to impact the game offensively.

Naming Trocheck as captain would set a precedent that the management group actually does believe in this core despite reports stating the contrary.

It would also help calm all of the outside noise down, shifting the focus from their struggles and trade drama.

No better player is more worthy to represent the Rangers as captain than Trocheck is, so the Rangers should act quickly.
