The Lightning picked Edmonds in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Edmonds has spent the majority of his time in the American Hockey League playing for the Syracuse Crunch.
The 23-year-old is coming off a season where he recorded nine goals, seven assists and 16 points in 45 games.
Through his tenure with the Lightning organization, Edmonds did not play in the NHL for Tampa Bay.
This trade comes following a blockbuster trade involving the Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks that sent Mikko Rantanen to the Hurricanes.
It’s unclear if Rangers general manager Chris Drury has more up his sleeve.
