The Rangers Just Might Take A Gamble On Jonathan Toews

Ten Things Rangers Fans Should Know Right This Minute:

1. Jonathan Toews, a multi-Cup-winner in Chicago, is readying for a comeback and the question is where? The answer should be New York, of course.

2. At 36, Toews is rested; still has the goods and, certainly, the experience. Several teams have expressed interest although I doubt the bidding will be high. No doubt, Chris Drury is checking it out.

3. Stealth-like Jonny Brodzinski often disappears from the radar. In fact, the Vegas Knights wish that he would disappear altogether; he was that good the other night as he often is, yet unnoticed by many.

4. My super scout Jess Rubenstein adds this note: "The funny thing is that before last season Brod wasn't even expected to play fornthe Rangers. He was signed to a two-year extension with the plan that he'd be the Hartford captain and help the younger players."

5. No more stealth-like, acquired-defenseman Will Borgen has become an acquired taste among the Garden Faithful. He might even be held over to next season the way he's impressed since arriving on Seventh Avenue.

6. Alex Shibicky, Jr., my pal and son of 1940-Cup-winner Alex, Sr., reports that he's come upon a treasure trove of Rangers memorabilia dating back to the third Cup win. One photo was taken from Alex Senior's apartment on West 49th Street around the corner from old MSG.

7. Another is an 85-year-old picture postcard of the then new Hotel Lincoln on Eighth Avenue where several of the Champ Blueshirts lived. The Maple Leafs also stayed there when they played New York and an incident involving the hotel and Leafs made it into hockey history books.

8. Prior to a game with the Rangers, Leafs forwards Charlie Conacher and Baldy Cotton checked into their eighth floor room at the Hotel Lincoln. When Cotton couldn't stop hissing and moaning about Charlie nor passing to him in a game the previous night, the irate Conacher hung Cotton by his ankles out the window over Eighth Avenue until Baldy agreed to shut up!

9. Good Idea Department: How about the next banner-raising at MSG be for Sam Rosen!! (Thank you, Jess.)

10. Something tells me that Alexis (Big Al) Lafreniere is alive and well and ready to REALLY contribute as he did at about this time last year. (If not, he should give his big $ back!)
