The Rangers I'll Never Forget
Today, The Maven inaugurates a new segment called "The Ranger I'll Never Forget."
My first guest is distinguished author George Grimm whose many works I love but especially "Guardians Of The Goal." (Take it away, Georgie!)
"I had arranged to interview Brad Park for my then proposed book, 'We Did Everything But Win.' But before Brad would talk to me, he wanted to check with his former boss, Emile Francis, to see if it was okay to talk to me.
"Once Brad got the green light, I had to phone Park at 10 a.m. one morning. We talked for about an hour, but then he had to go. But since I had asked my questions in chronological order, he knew I wasn't finished. So, before I had even asked, he said I could call him again the next morning at 10.
"In essence I had my morning coffee with Brad Park for those two days. Mind you, this was my first book and Brad didn't know me from Adam. But he was nice enough and generous enough to give me more time so I could finish my research.
"Bottom Line: It was then that I realized what a great guy Brad was and how lucky I was to have gained his trust.
"Something – and a Ranger – I'll never forget!"
