Rangers ‘Covet’ J.T. Miller And Reportedly Included Young Forward In Trade Talks

More information continues to come out regarding trade discussions the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks had about J.T. Miller.

Elliotte Friedman reported that trade talks for Miller were progressing between the Rangers and Canucks up to the point where Vancouver almost held the veteran forward out of their Saturday night matchup against the Edmonton Oilers.

Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today provided more insight into how serious the Rangers are about acquiring Miller.

“It’s apparently on ice for now, but it’s become increasingly clear that the Rangers covet Miller and view him as one of the very few potentially available players who could change the dynamic of their lineup,” Mercogliano wrote via X.

Braden Scheider, Alexis Lafrenière and Filip Chytil are all names being mentioned in trade rumors, but it’s unclear how much the Rangers are willing to give up and what the Canucks are seeking in return for Miller.

“It’s fairly well known that Vancouver has asked for Braden Schneider and the Rangers have repeatedly said no to this point,” Mercogliano reported. “Alexis Lafrenière also feels like a bridge too far. But a name at least one source believes was involved in most recent trade talks: Filip Chytil. It’s unclear if Canucks want to go down that road given his injury history, but it’s something to monitor.”

The trade is reportedly off for now. Based on all of this information though, it seems entirely possible talks could reignite at any point.
