Rangers' AHL Defenseman Suspended For Injuring Goalie On Dirty Play

New York Rangers and Hartford Wolf Pack defenseman Ben Harpur made headlines for charging Rochester Americans goaltender Felix Sandstrom, which resulted in a four-game suspension.

Harpur was assessed a five minute major for charging and a game misconduct for the play.

Americans head coach Mike Leone later revealed that Sandstrom suffered an upper-body injury.

Essentially, it seemed Harpur made contact with the opposing goalie without really any clear purpose.

Through nine games this season, the 29-year-old defenseman has one assist and one point. He hasn’t played with the Rangers since the 2022-23 season when he played 42 games in the NHL.

Harpur will be eligible to return for the Wolf Pack’s game against the Springfield Thunderbirds on Nov. 23.
