An update on the future of Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra has been provided today, amid reports linking him with a move away from the club.

As reported by Marca, Guerra has received formal interest from teams such as Real Sociedad and Girona. Real have approached the midfielder in anticipation of the departure of Mikel Merino, while Girona are looking to replace Aleix García, who they sold to Bayern Leverkusen.

However, Valencia will make negotiations difficult and won’t entertain insultingly low offers for an important member of their squad. Villarreal will receive 30% of any potential deal and therefore the Mestalla club will also have to take this into consideration.

Girona were the first team to initiate contact and they believe they can use the idea of playing in the UEFA Champions League to lure Guerra from Valencia. The club will also present their project in the hope that they can leapfrog other teams in the race for the 21-year-old’s signature.

Sociedad, meanwhile, have begun talks in recent days, attempting to strike a deal with the club first before reaching an agreement on personal terms with the player. The Basque outfit have suggested including other players in a swap deal, but the initial sense is that Valencia will not accept this.

The La Liga side would prefer to have a full fee and also the salary off their books, as this will significantly benefit their financial situation. From a sporting perspective, those at the club would prefer to keep Guerra due to his consistency and value to the squad, though.
