QMJHL's D-Man Point Leader Ty Higgins Commits To NCAA's Bowling Green
Rouyn-Noranda Huskies defenseman Ty Higgins came into the season in an unusual spot as the team opted for two overage defensemen in him and Alex Carr.
With the QMJHL only allowing three overage player per team, that adds a lot of pressure to players.
Higgins hasn't only risen to the occassion for the Huskies, but he and Carr have been the most dominant overage defensemen in the league.
Now, he's been rewarded with a commitment to Bowling Green State University.
Higgins, 20, has picked up a defensemen-leading 45 points (12+33) across 42 games -- already surpassing his own single season point record of 41 in 2023.

The Stratford, Ontario native's path to the QMJHL has been an unusual one.
After being passed on in the OHL rookie draft, he was taken in the U-18 draft by the Owen Sound Attack after a season of absence -- thanks to the suspension of most junior hockey in Ontario during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After a point-per-game first half of his debut season in the GOJHL, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan would sign the 6-foot-1 blueliner -- where he'd soon become one of the teams best defensemen.
Across 187 games thus far between the Huskies and formerly the Titan, he's picked up 134 points (38+96).
Higgins becomes just the third QMJHL with ties to Bowling Green State University, following the commitments of Halifax goaltender Jacob Steinman and Gatineau centerman Jeremie Minville earlier this season.
