Pyotr Kochetkov Sends Stick Flying In Hilarious Clip

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov is not one who is known for keeping a tight grip on his stick.

The 25-year-old Russian is unorthodox in his approach to protecting the net to say the least and one thing that has been consistently true with him is that he loses his stick... a lot.

This season, I've teamed up with fellow Canes beat writer Cory Lavalette of North State Journal, to track all of Kochetkov's stick drops and he's already up to 32 in just 18 games.

And tonight he had perhaps the funniest one yet.

With the clock ticking down in the first period of Carolina's Tuesday night game against the New York Islanders, a puck took a bounce on the way to the net and as it sailed over the Hurricanes' net, Kochetkov proceeded to seemingly hurl his stick up at it.

Definitely not a traditional play, but a funny one nonetheless.

"It was tough shot,' Kochetkov said after the game. "I no see puck a little bit. I just try reaction save and it was my bad. My stick always... No comments about the stick."

And funny enough, Kochetkov feels that he is doing a better job this year holding onto his stick as opposed to last year.

"I think this season I do better," Kochetkov said. "Last season, it was every game. Five time in period I no have stick. I work in summer with f---ing... [makes gesture of gripping stick] my stick and my hand. I think this season a little bit better."

Well, whatever he's doing, it's working as he posted a 32-save shutout win, his first of the season and ninth of his career.
