Manuel Ugarte left Paris Saint-Germain on the final day of the summer transfer window and will begin a new chapter at Old Trafford. Nonetheless, one expert states that the Parisians sold at the right time before the player’s value took a hit.

Multiple reports reveal that PSG will receive a fixed fee of €50 million plus €10 million in add-ons and a 10 percent sell-on clause as part of Ugarte’s transfer to Manchester United.

The capital club recouped most of what they invested in Ugarte when they secured the player from Sporting Lisbon—with the player not being counted on by manager Luis Enrique, CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson stated that it was the perfect time for PSG to sell to secure their initial investment.

“[PSG] sold player who didn’t fit into the system with Luis Enrique, and they had to do it at this time,” Johnson said on the latest episode of PSG Talking. “Otherwise, you run the risk of his value dropping massively, not getting a transfer fee for him.

“So in that respect, you can argue that PSG have sold at the right time before any damage can really be done because it was very clear, even from the first couple of games of the season, Ugarte wasn’t going to be getting back into the squad under Luis Enrique because he’s just not that player.

“He doesn’t have the skillset, he doesn’t have the technique. A destroyer can be extremely valuable in the right team, but Luis Enrique has never played with one of those players, so it doesn’t fit with the tactical blueprint that he’s trying to apply for this PSG side.”

Journalist Duncan Castles reported this week there are no hard feelings toward Ugarte and that PSG anticipate that Ugarte will become one of Manchester United’s top players in the future.
