PSG’s Luis Enrique Shares Honest Take on Facing Barcelona in Last Season’s Champions League
Paris Saint-Germain defeated FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals last season. Nonetheless, the matchup caused manager Luis Enrique a lot of stress.
Enrique has a history with the Catalan side having played for the club and managed it for four years between 2014 and 2017. As a result, it was only fitting that the Spanish side collided with PSG as Enrique returned to managing at the club level.
Barcelona would secure a 3-2 win at the Parc des Princes. However, in the second leg, the capital club secured a 4-1 victory to advance past the La Liga club. While speaking to Fútbol en Movistar Plus+, Enrique noted his emotions over the two legs.
“The match against Barça was awful,” Enrique said. “Coming back to face the club that has given me so much was such a tough feeling. I really hope I don’t have to play against them again this season—I can’t even imagine a final against Barça.”

PSG aren’t playing Barcelona in the league phase of the Champions League, but they could cross paths if both teams advance to the knockout stage. It will be interesting to see how Enrique will handle another tie against the Spanish club.
