Twists and turns are all a part of football, and FC Barcelona are no strangers to such surprises. However, it is one thing to expect such shifts, and completely another to be fully prepared for them. In the case of FC Barcelona, their main priority target is unfortunately the one currently muddled up in uncertainty.

The operation concerning 22-year-old Athletic Club winger Nico Williams has been noticeably drawn out. La Blaugrana have been hoping to acquire him for quite some time and the club will still wait on his final answer before they make a definite decision to move on.

However, while the wait continues to linger on for Barcelona, there is another element to this transfer saga that works against Barça in a very dangerous way. As highlighted by SPORT, the younger brother of Inaki Williams reportedly made a promise that, if fulfilled, could keep him away from Barcelona.

Apparently, the younger of the two professional Williams brothers made the vow to play at least one season at Athletic Club to help the team out in Europe. With the Basque club now having qualified for the UEFA Europa League this season, the only thing left to make that promise a reality is Nico Williams staying another season.

While this would understandably come as a big blow to Barcelona, especially given the fact that they have neglected other operations to cater to this one, there is still a bright spot for the Catalan giants that stems from within the camp of the player himself.

Apparently, the player’s entourage is pushing him to take advantage of his performance in the European Championship to take on the challenge of succeeding at a much more ambitious club next season. With Barcelona, the aspirations to consistently win titles can become a much more achievable goal than with the Basque club of his life.

This plays directly in the favor of Barcelona, who want to reunite Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal in the Blaugrana colors following their dynamic partnership in the Euros for Spain. However, only time will be able to tell if Barça truly manage to pull this deal off or if the player decides to stay right where he is.
