Projecting The Stars: Logan Stankoven
As we move closer to the start of the NHL’’s 2024-25 regular season, THN.com’s Dallas Stars team website is posting a series of player projections for the Dallas Stars. We’re now well into our player-by-player series, and on this day, we’re examining rookie winger Logan Stankoven.
The 21-year-old Stankoven played 24 NHL games this past season, but he’s already had great success at the American League level, and he’s well-positioned to make a major impact in hockey’s top league.
Career: 6 goals, 14 points in 24 games
2023-24 Statistics: 6 goals, 14 points in 24 games
Salary Cap Hit: $814,167, through 2025-26
Summary of 2023-24 Season: Stankoven’s first season of professional hockey went about as well as he could’ve hoped for: at the AHL level, he won the rookie-of-the-year award and posted 24 goals and 57 goals in 47 games for the Texas Stars. Then, after being called up to the NHL level, Stankoven generated six goals and 14 points in 24 regular-season games, as well as three goals and eight points in 19 Stanley Cup playoff games.
Stankoven had big expectations on him last year, a result of being a second-round selection (47th overall) by Dallas in the 2021 draft. But on a deep Stars team, he wasn’t going to automatically receive top-six minutes, and so the numbers he did reach were impressive. Stankoven has earned a longer look this season with Dallas, and it’s in large part because he thrived in any role the Stars gave him last year.

Projections For 2024-25 Season: As per THN Lineups, Stankoven will begin the 2024-25 season on Dallas’ third line, alongside veteran winger Jamie Benn and rookie center Mavrik Bourque. Stars coach Peter DeBoer may choose to protect Stankoven by giving him limited minutes against opponents’ top lines, but given his performance in a small sample size last season, Stankoven should be able to put up somewhere in the area of 20 goals and 40 points this coming season.
Like every NHL youngster, Stankoven has to acclimate to the rigors of a full-time NHL job, but Stankoven proved this past season he was up to the challenges put in front of him, and Stars management is hoping this season will be no different. Dallas will be paying many veterans big bucks this year, so they need high-value assets to provide significant offense for low salaries, and Stankoven is one of those high-value assets.
He’s a long-term part of the bigger picture for the Stars, and Stankoven has all the tools to produce above-average results this year and beyond.
