Pro Bowler Marshawn Lynch practices with Cal in Australia (Photos)

Former Cal running back and five-time Pro Bowler Marshawn Lynch practiced with his alma mater in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday. The Bears open the 2016 season against Hawaii in Australia on Saturday (or Friday in the United States).

Coach Sonny Dykes told ESPN.com that Lynch has served as a mentor for the players and an ambassador for the team.

“He came out to practice [Tuesday], watched practice, actually suited out and took a couple reps as the scout team running back,” Dykes said.

“He’s been really great with our players and has interacted with their families. He loves young people and trying to have an impact on them. He does a lot of things that people don’t know about behind the scenes. We’re lucky to have him around.”

Lynch, 30, retired from the NFL last February after nine seasons. He played for Cal from 2004 to ’06, and rushed for 3,230 yards and 29 touchdowns and had 68 catches for 600 yards and six scores. He was drafted No. 12 overall by the Buffalo Bills.
