Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Children Are Officially Going by Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seemingly confirmed their children will be using their "Prince" and "Princess" titles.

When Prince Harry's father, King Charles, became king, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor immediately became Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet as grandchildren of the reigning monarch, following the 1917 Letters Patent. That patent said the "HRH" designation would be given to the children of the sovereign, grandchildren in the male line, and the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales.

However, there was much debate over whether or not Harry and Meghan would use the "Prince" and "Princess" titles for their children, and when Charles ascended to the throne, their children remained sans the titles on the royal family's website.

Yet today, when a Sussex spokesperson confirmed their daughter's christening, they said, "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor," which indicates Meghan and Harry are now using "Prince" and "Princess" for their children. T&C understands that the royal family's website will be updated to reflect this change in due course.

In Meghan's sit-down interview with Oprah, she said that she and Harry never chose to forgo a title for Archie. "They were saying they didn't want him to be a Prince or Princess, which would be different from protocol, and that he wasn't going to receive security," Meghan said. "This went on for the last few months of our pregnancy where I was going, hold on for a second."

She continued, "They said [he's not going to get security], because he's not going to be a Prince. Okay, well, he needs to be safe so we're not saying don't make him a Prince or Princess, but if you're saying the title is what's going to affect that protection, we haven't created this monster machine around us in terms of clickbait and tabloid fodder you've allowed that to happen which means our son needs to be safe."

Meghan told Oprah that if giving him a title "meant he was going to be safe," she wanted him to have one.
