'Pretty Safe To Make This Team': Kris Knoblauch Jokes About Superstar's Chances To Make the Edmonton Oilers
EDMONTON -- A little humor never hurt anyone.
Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch's been known to deliver a joke or two. Usually, it's dry, witty humor. It mostly elicits eye-rolls and other groans.
Occasionally, he knocks it out of the park.

In Knoblauch's pre-game scrum before the Oilers latest game against the Winnipeg Jets, he was asked what players he's paying attention to the most, with the understanding that the team will need to keep making cuts to the squad attending training camp this pre-season.
"We're looking at other guys a little more clearly," Knoblauch stated. "Last game at home against Calgary I can't really say I was looking at the fine details of McDavid."
"I felt he was pretty safe to make this team."
Despite no audible laughs, it's clear from Knoblauch's big smile that he thought he cracked the next best joke. To his credit, not enough previous coaches joked about the chances of Connor McDavid making the team. It may seem trivial, but remembering to smile and joke around helps to alleviate the stress of a long 82-game season.
Knoblauch was hired by the Oilers in mid-November. Despite being a rookie coach, he coached the team all the way to the Stanley Cup Final. He went toe-to-toe with some of the best coaches in the game and out-coached them.
Oilers fans should be excited to see what an Oilers team can do with Knoblauch at the helm from the starting blocks. Buckle up, Oil Country.
