Preston North End have announced that manager Ryan Lowe has left the club just one game into the new campaign.

The Championship side were beaten 2-0 at home by Sheffield United in their opening game on Friday night.

Discussions took place on Sunday between Lowe and the club hierarchy, when ‘it was mutually agreed that now was an appropriate time for a change to be made’.

Lowe had been in charge for two-and-a-half seasons and led Preston to finishes of 13th, 12th and 10th during that time.

Mike Marsh will take temporary charge for this week’s games against Sunderland in the EFL Cup and Swansea City in the league.
