The preseason Mountain West football poll is out. Where was Boise State picked to finish?

Spencer Danielson’s first full season as head coach of the Boise State football team will begin with sky-high expectations.

The Broncos were picked to win the Mountain West regular-season title in a preseason poll of select media, which was released Wednesday in conjunction with the league’s annual media days in Las Vegas.

It marked the 17th year in a row the Broncos have been picked to claim either a conference or division crown.

Boise State, which won a share of the 2023 regular-season title and last year’s championship game, received 38 of 46 first-place votes and 543 total points. The Broncos open the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug. 31, at Georgia Southern (2 p.m., ESPNU).

UNLV, which lost to Boise State in last season’s league title game, came in second in the preseason poll with 471 points and four first-place votes. Fresno State was third with 460 points and the remaining four first-place votes, and Air Force was fourth with 384 points.

The two Mountain West programs with the best conference records this season will meet in the 2024 Old Trapper Mountain West Football Championship, which is set for 6 p.m. Mountain time on Friday, Dec. 6, at the home of the team with the best winning percentage in league play.

The game will be televised on Fox for the fifth straight year.

Boise State will play seven Mountain West opponents in the regular season: UNLV, Wyoming, Utah State, San Diego State, Hawaii, San Jose State and Nevada. Only UNLV was picked to finish in the top five.
