Preseason Gameday Preview 5: Flyers vs. Islanders
The Philadelphia Flyers will be traveling for their fifth preseason game, and their second matchup against the New York Islanders.
The Flyers won't have a ton of NHL regulars in tonight's roster, which is an intriguing choice considering that the Islanders will likely feature many of their top guys in this game, but assistant coach Darryl Williams (who is acting as the head coach for this game) explained that the organization has been constantly monitoring players' performances against the different oppositions they've faced so far—a move that's mote important than ever as the regular season draws closer.
New Kid In Net
Alexei Kolosov has officially arrived at training camp, and will see some minutes against the Islanders.
Assistant coach Darryl Williams (who will be acting as head coach for this game) confirmed that Kolosov and Ivan Fedotov will be sharing the goaltending responsibilities for this game, although he wasn't certain how exactly the minutes would be split amongst the pair.
Kolosov will be making his debut for the Flyers following a long summer of speculation concerning his willingness to play in North America.
"I am very honored to be part of the Flyers organization and am happy to be here at training camp," the Belarusian goalie said. "I look forward to the opportunity to play alongside my teammates and help the team win."
The Flyers have not yet commented on Kolosov's arrival in training camp.
Intriguing Lineup Choices

The Flyers haven't been afraid to switch things up in their preseason lineups, so it will be worth tuning in to see if what they've thrown at the wall tonight sticks in any way.
Down To The Wire
With the Flyers' preseason winding down, these games are as good an indication as any of how ready these players are for the 2024-25 season. Many players have said that they're close to being back to season form, and with the different line combinations and chemistry experiments the team is trying out, we're reaching a point where if you're going to make a case for a spot on the NHL roster, it's truly now or never to prove what you can bring to the top group.
