Prep Sports Report: Coach Chron nabs 1,000th victory as Bellingham blanks Mount Vernon

Memorable numbers were everywhere in Northwest Conference fall sports in a week packed with significant events.

As detailed in last week’s roundup highlight, Bellingham tennis coach Steve Chronister reached 1,000 dual match victories by his 77 boys and girls teams with a 7-0 win over Mount Vernon on Thursday.

One day earlier, however, Sehome’s unbeaten boys achieved a special number with a 5-2 win over Bellingham, delaying Chronister’s milestone and setting up a big rematch Oct. 14 in the final round of dual-match play.

Meanwhile, Lynden remained the only Whatcom County school to stay unbeaten in NWC games in both girls soccer and volleyball.

Lynden senior Evelyn Saldivar continued her soccer scoring streak of all nine games, a genuine rarity that would be a record for almost all high school girls teams.
